JONATHAN ERDMAN, RECTOR

Reverend Jonathan ErdmanFriends in Christ,

It is a joy to be writing to you for the first time as your Rector. Andrea and I are incredibly grateful for the hospitality shown to us by so many of you at Calvary. We have been blessed by your support of us as we have been getting settled in Louisville.  I am grateful to the search committee, the vestry, and the wardens of Calvary for their work in calling us to this Church, and for the many hours spent helping us make our home here.

As we begin our ministry together, I find it significant that we have been following the Gospel of Luke over the past few Sundays. Luke has stressed the theme of setting out to follow Christ. When God calls us to follow him, he asks that we respond to his call by setting out to follow at once. Jesus tells us that we do not need to wait until we have everything in order. He calls us simply to step out in faith. God promises that he will give us what we need to do the work that we are called to do.

God has given us work to do, and it is an exciting time to be starting as your Rector. As I have been meeting with many of you, I am increasingly aware of the many gifts and talents that God has given to the people of this parish. The ministry of this parish means so much to so many. I am grateful for every story that is told of the family that is here in this place. The love of God is evident in the way you care for one another and the community that surrounds us. It is exciting to be working with members and the staff to plan for the upcoming year. I look forward to meeting many of you as the summer draws to a close and the new program year begins.

I am also glad to have seen some of the renovation of the parish hall and the kitchen. I have heard how so many in the parish have worked so hard to do the work of transforming the areas in which we live our life together. It is always fulfilling to see the chaos of transition transform into something wonderful at its completion. Transition is often a time of renewal as it draws to a close, and I am glad to be here at Calvary. I look forward to our ministry together and to the work that God has called us to share.

May God bless you as the summer comes to an end and we begin a new fall together. .

Faithfully in Christ,
Jonathan Erdman +

JOHN HINES, OUR INTERIM RECTOR

Reverend John Hines(August 2009-June 2010)

What a wonderful reception following my last Sunday with you at Calvary! The food and gifts were topped only by your typically warm hospitality and thoughtful generosity. Calvary is a unique place, and I will always treasure my time with you all. May God’s peace be with you and Father Erdman as you begin your next 150 years.
