Career Networking and Resource Group

The Calvary Career Networking and resource group started in April when Laura Hall, NCC, DCC, offered Calvary Episcopal Church parishioners guidance to find a new job or to manage a transition to a new job.  The church open the doors to help people in this extremely difficult economic panorama. Ms. Hall very kindly accepted to collaborate with Mr. Surrenti, a Calvary parishioner, and also an outplacement counselor himself. The different background of the two Career Counselors has provided the group with a combination of traditional career counseling: career assessment, skill set inventory, resume and cover letter writing, networking strategy, interview preparation, combined with experiential activities (namely body-mind awareness based on Yoga and Contact Improvisation - a cutting edge of contemporary dance movement form. The participants are having success getting interviews and defining their career path with a full sense of ownership and satisfaction. Thanks to this group experience and to Calvary for hosting us, we are understanding more deeply that making responsible choices and decisions  in ones professional career, actually invites us as a whole individual. The productivity group has been meeting every first Sunday of the month (1st meeting, Sunday the 2nd of August- at Calvary at 12.45 pm in room 206) The main objective of  "PG" is to keep track of individual and group actions toward the job search ( resumes sent, cover letters sent, network meetings, interviews, etc.

Now we are moving to Phase II when the group will function as a resource for each participant, where members can exchange information, contacts, referrals, tips. Each individual will attend the group until they find a new job. They will leave the group after a "celebration" for the new job (come to your last meeting with cake or champagne!).

In addition:

·      one “catching up” session is offered for free form Laura Hall and Gionatan Surrenti.  This would be a one-on-one consultation where you can work on whatever you like:  resume development, networking strategy, etc. After the first session, each session of 1 hour and 15 minutes will have a fee of $50. A deferred payment policy is available. (for more information call/email Laura Hall and Gionatan Surrenti)

·      We all acknowledge that having a career group in a church environment gave the project a more deep and spiritual twist. We thank Calvary Episcopal church and Callie Hausman to have opened the door and host us. Gionatan Surrenti and Laura hall will be writing an article about this experience, so look for it in the next bulletin issue.

Feel free to contact the church office to get contact information for   Laura Hall and Gionatan Surrenti for further information.
