New Rector Called To Calvary!
TO THE PEOPLE OF CALVARY
After meeting for nearly nine months, the Calvary Search Committee recommended to the vestry that the Rev. Jonathan M. Erdman be called as Calvary’s next Rector. After due consideration and as Senior Warden on behalf of the vestry, I issued the call and Fr. Erdman accepted. I am happy to announce that Fr. Erdman’s first Sunday at Calvary will be July 4, 2010.
Fr. Erdman has just completed his fourth year as Curate and Youth Minister at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York City. In that capacity his responsibilities have included presiding and preaching at Sunday liturgy, Evensong and midweek services, directing the Sunday School, Youth and Twenties and Thirties Programs, coordinating, planning and preparing for marriages, baptisms, funerals and special services, providing pastoral care and teaching, and supervising staff. Prior to his tenure at Saint Thomas, he briefly served parishes in Connecticut and Missouri as Intern and Curate, respectively.
He is 31 years of age and married to Andrea Erdman. They have a two-year-old daughter, Sarah, and Andrea is expecting their second child in May. Both Jonathan and Andrea are natives of Missouri and graduates of the University of Missouri-Rolla. Andrea is a licensed Clinical Social Worker. Jonathan was a magna cum laude graduate in psychology and earned a Master of Divinity at Yale University Divinity School and a Diploma in Anglican Studies at Berkeley Divinity School.
It is apparent that Fr. Erdman possesses considerable gifts and enthusiasms related to his vocation. These qualities were evident in several ways in his official documents and references, in the performance of his professional responsibilities as observed by a Search Committee team during a visit at Saint Thomas in New York, and in his interviews with members of the Search Committee and Bishop Gulick in Louisville. The prevailing impression is of a spiritually well-grounded priest who is a talented liturgist and singer, an adept preacher, Christian Formation teacher and program developer, a compassionate pastor, and an innovative church administrator.
It is indeed a pleasure to welcome the Erdmans to the Calvary community and we look forward to helping them get settled and becoming acquainted.
It is with deep appreciation that we acknowledge the work of Fr. John Hines and the Search
Committee for their sincere efforts to bring us to this happy moment.
Molly Isaacs McLeod, Senior Warden
