May 26, 2009

Special Meetings of June 23 and July 1

 

Call to Order: The May 26 meeting was chaired by Rev. J. Edward Morris. The June 23 and July 1 meetings were chaired by Senior Warden Larry Frederiksen. Minutes for previous meetings and for May 26 were accepted.

Special Order of the Day (June 23 only): A list of volunteers for the search committee was presented.

Committee Reports (May 26 only)

Parish Life: Molly Isaacs-McLeod reported that Calvary Camp at All Saints has been cancelled for 2009 due to low registration. Parish Picnic is June 7.

Worship: Athans Adoki reported that there will be no changes in the times and formats of the services over the summer months.

Pastoral Care: Kit Llewellyn passed out copies of the minutes of the May 13 meeting. Noted items: flower delivery, the phone tree, funeral reception, and bereavement / grief support.

Christian Formation: Bishop Gulick has offered to conduct a forum on baptism and confirmation.

Stewardship: The Stewardship Chair description is included in Callie Hausman’s report regarding program chairs.

Outreach: The Alice H. James Adult Learning Center needs readers. Anyone interested in volunteering, contact Susan Carrel at Goodwill.

Property: Work on the glass window has started, the ridge cap has been repaired, the balcony leak has been isolated, there is no update for the narthex restroom work, and the insurance money has been received for the repairs to the front steps.

Finance: Jim Barnes presented the financial statements for the month ending April, 2009. Reminder: Pledge receipts have been low. Please keep up pledge payments over the summer. Report accepted. In addition: Jim Barnes explained the draft of a purchase procedure. The external auditor is now in possession of Calvary’s financial records for the 2008 audit.

Fundraising: A tentative date for this event is October 16 at the Henry Clay. Tickets will cost $25 per person.

Rector: Fr. Morris thanked the Vestry for all that is being done to expedite the search for a new rector.

Old Business (May 26)

2010 Sesquicentennial Celebration: John Bugbee has a plan for this event (look in August CONNECTION).

New Business - June 23

Search Committee:

*The number of search committee members was set at nine.

*The non-vestry members selected are Noel Booker, Art Dietz, Jamie Hendon, Mary Sanders, Meg Scharre, Gwathmey Tyler, and David Webb.

*Vestry members are Kit Llewellyn and Will Vail.

*The articles of the search committee charge were discussed and drafted.

*A special meeting of the vestry and search committee will be held July 1. The Rev. Mark Linder will attend.

*Search and interim priest costs were discussed.

*John Bugbee and Ruth Robins were appointed to conduct the exit interview with Ned Morris.

New Business – July 1

Search Committee: *Larry Frederiksen made the motion to hire The Rev. John Hines as interim priest; seconded by John Bugbee. The motion was approved. Fr. Hines will serve from August 16 through November 29, 2009. He will be at Calvary on Sundays and one weekday. He will be paid $500 per week.

*The Rev. Mark Linder, the Deployment Officer for the Diocese, will serve as Search/Vacancy Consultant. Fr. Linder presented a step-by-step exposition of the search process.

*The articles of the search committee charge were revised.

Closing

Compline was read by Will Vail on May 26 and by Kit Llewellyn on June 23. The next meeting of the Vestry is July 28, 2009 @ 5:15 PM. Respectfully submitted,
