Minutes
of the September 22, 2009 Meeting
Present: Rev. Emily
Schwartz, Larry Frederiksen, Molly Isaacs-McLeod, Jim Barnes,
Absent: Tom Fulton, Kit
Llewellyn, Kelsey Hensley.
The minutes were accepted. Larry Frederiksen read an opening prayer.
Committee Reports
Worship: Dorn
Crawford noted that Time and Talent Fair is October 18. October 4 is the
Blessing of the Animals.
Christian Formation: Franklin Starks referred to Callie Hausman’s
Report to the Vestry for September.
Stewardship: Will Vail provided a detailed report. The Every
Member Canvass (EMC) letter has been drafted, the mailing/distribution list is
being updated, the goal is $390,000, the Rev. John Hines will deliver the
kickoff sermon on October 4, EMC for 2010 will be finalized by October 25, and
a stewardship article in the Calvary
Connection is coming soon.
Outreach: John Bugbee referred to Margaret Dickinson’s September Outreach, Music
and Communications report.
Communication: Dorn Crawford referred to
Property: Window repair is in progress. So far over $18,000 has been raised.
Finance: Jim Barnes
presented the financial statements for the month ending August, 2009 and
reported on the status of the endowment funds. Financial Reports accepted.
Plate receipts will be addressed in the 2010 budget, as will commitment to the
Diocese for 2010. Two new microphones for the P/A system have been purchased
for $1,115 charged to the fixtures and equipment account. The first payment for
the triangular stained-glass windows repair has been made.
Fundraising: Jim Barnes referred to a website posting about the November event. John
Bugbee referred to the article in the Calvary Connection.
Junior Warden: The Vestry should consider alternate venues to Wooded Glen for the
upcoming retreat.
Assistant to the Rector: Rev. Emily Schwartz announced that she is exploring other job opportunities.
She has made no decisions yet, but wanted to be honest by letting us know her
intentions.
Old Business
Search Committee Update: Will Vail said 16 information packets will be
mailed out. In the packet’s letter of introduction, each candidate is asked to
reply within two weeks. John Bugbee provided a copy of the Calvary Transition
Resource Binder.
Clothes Closet: Motion to vote on proposed guidelines was withdrawn, as it was determined
that no vestry action was needed. The new guidelines developed by the CC
volunteers were received as a report.
New Business
Career Project Proposal: A proposal was set forth to host or sponsor a project entitled “Shaping
Career through Community.” This project is based on the career management group
serving Calvary during the summer of 2009 led by Laura Hall and Gionatan Surrenti. The proposal
was tabled. The Vestry went into executive session to discuss motions proposed
by the Executive Committee. All motions were passed. The next regularly
scheduled meeting of the Vestry is October 27, 2009 @
